SENIOR INVESTIGATOR AWARDS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Discovery Award: Robert Floyd, Ph.D., Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation
Lifetime Achievement Award: Ron Mason, Ph.D., NIEHS

January 25, 2008 -- SFRBM is now calling for nominations from members for its two senior investigator awards for 2008. The "Discovery Award" serves to recognize the most significant advancement in the field over the previous year and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" recognizes an aggregate body of work over the scientist's career. Both awards will include a featured lecture at SFRBM's 15th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, IN as well as a $2,500 cash award. Nominations for these awards will be taken through May 5, 2008. SFRBM Discovery Award
For a breakthrough discovery that has had a major impacton the field of free radical
biology and medicine.
-Featured plenary lecture at SFRBM 2008 Annual Meeting
-Travel expenses paid
-$2,500 cash award
-Bronze medal with stand

The winner will also be invited to publish a review article for Free Radical Biology and Medicine, SFRBM's journal, celebrating their scientific contributions and the presentation of this award.

SFRBM Lifetime Achievement Award
For overall contributions to the field of free radical biology and medicine.
-Featured plenary lecture at SFRBM 2008 Annual Meeting
-Travel expenses paid
-$2,500 cash award
-Bronze medal with stand

The winner will also be invited to publish a review article for Free Radical Biology and Medicine, SFRBM's journal, celebrating their scientific contributions and the presentation of this award.

NOMINATIONS PROCESS

Eligibility & Submission

Only SFRBM members are eligible to be considered for these awards. Each submitted nomination should include the following:

  • A signed supporting letter by the nominating individual describing the candidate and why they are an appropriate candidate for the award (self nominations are permitted)
  • A secondary letter of support from a SFRBM member
  • Updated CV of candidate
  • A statement that the candidate, if selected, will be present at the SFRBM 2008 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis (November 19-23, 2008)

Candidates for senior investigator awards should be nominated for either the Discovery or Lifetime Achievement Awards, but not both. Completed submissions should be received by SFRBM no later than Monday, May 5, 2008. Submissions should be mailed to: SFRBM, 8365 Keystone Crossing, Suite 107, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Emailed submissions will not be considered.

Winning Recipients

Award winners will be determined by August 1, 2008 upon a vote of the SFRBM Awards Committee. In addition to the cash award and medal listed above:

  • Winners will give a plenary lecture at the SFRBM 2008 Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, IN USA.
  • Winners will have a one page bio and picture prominently displayed in the SFRBM 2008 Abstract/Program book. This information will also be placed on the SFRBM website with a link to the recipient’s home webpage.
