Dr. Jason Morrow
July 10, 2008 - It is with great sadness and with a tremendous sense of loss that we inform you of the sudden death of SFRBM Council Member, Jason Morrow, MD. Dr. Morrow was a long-time society member who was recognized with the Society’s Discovery Award in 2006. In 1990, Dr. Morrow and Dr. Jack Roberts discovered isoprostanes, a unique series of prostaglandin-like compounds formed from the free radical-initiated peroxidation of arachidonate. Pioneering work subsequently undertaken by them elucidated novel mechanisms of isoprostane formation, their role as biological mediators of tissue damage, and their potential as indices of oxidative stress in humans. This work has contributed importantly to the role of oxidized lipid mediators in human physiology and pathophysiology.
At the time of his death, Dr. Morrow served as the Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University. Jason was an active and tremendous advocate of the society making major contributions to both the science and collegial and collaborative atmosphere that epitomizes SFRBM. He was a model for established investigators in his gentle, thoughtful and enthusiastic support for research, our community and an inspiration to our trainees. He was a generous and creative scientist and will be greatly missed by all the members of SFRBM. On the members behalf a donation and our condolences will be forwarded to the family. If you would like to send a personal message or donation the information is below.
